" Sergeant Mack who was an instructor in the MCJROTC program died in May 2007 at 73 years old. I'll always remember the swirl of cigarette smoke from his top right desk drawer as that guy with all those stripes and schrapnel scars took the time to guide me, an unremarkable young hillbilly, toward a successful life. He didn't even disown me when I joined the Army! "
